A dollop of delightful whimsy, this inventive full-length premiere tells the story of a young boy who overindulges at a Viennese pastry shop and falls into a delirium. To help him escape from his attending physician, the boy dreams of his triumphant rescue by Princess Praline and her court, Princess Tea Flower, Prince Coffee as well as marching Marzipan, concluding in a festive celebration! As light as meringue, Richard Strauss' score is the perfect inspiration for this all-new production destined to delight fans of all ages. www.scfta.org

March 4 & 5, 11 & 12

Dana Point Festival of Whales
Celebrating its 46th anniversary, the Dana Point Festival of Whales will be held over two weekends, March 4 and 5 and March 11 and 12, in celebration of the migration of the California Gray Whale. Community members and visitors commemorate the migration with ocean themed events and activities that emphasize education and environmental responsibility. Today’s whale watchers hunt with cameras and binoculars, not harpoons. Dana Point is “The Whale Capital of the West,” because experts believe the town’s 200-foot cliffs that jut out into the sea serve as a landmark for the migrating whales. About 25% of the migrating whale population follows the coastline throughout their migration, coming especially close to shore at Dana Point. During peak season, (December through March), nearly 50 whales a day pass by Dana Point, making it a great viewing spot. Whale watch on a guided tour or charter a boat for a guided cruise. www.festivalofwhales.com
